Fantastic cycling trip!
What a fabulous cycling trip we had! Mihai was the most thoughtful, generous guide, mysteriously managed to appear each time we took a wrong turn, and he thought of everything and went out of his way to always provide anything we wanted. The tour was thoughtfully planned, with the right distance and elevation each day, and adaptable by Mihai by request. The countryside and villages were charming, the people friendly and welcoming. The accommodation was excellent with some delicious meals and an excellent wine and beer selection, even the occasional cocktail! All meals were included, and even my vegetarianism was pandered to! Mihai was exceptional to deal with beforehand, fantastic communication. We loved the cultural element to the trip, learning about the history of the area and the visits to the fortified churches, the blacksmith, the kiln showing the production of original local roof tiles, and even the old Saxon home gifted to King Charles, with an excellent tour guide who taught us about efforts to restore Transylvania to its former glory. Our group of 4 have done many cycling tours before, in France, Italy and Germany, and we all agreed this was the best, and by far the best organised, with the most amazing support. Best cycle tour I’ve ever done
I’ve done cycle tours around the world and this is the best one I’ve ever done. We had five days cycling around Transylvania, and Mihai was with us every step of the way. He didn’t cycle with us but was poised in his van, ready to come to our aid at every tricky spot or if we had any problems with our bikes. I think this is the perfect time to visit Transylvania, before it gets too spoilt and over touristed, but you still really need a guide at this point like Mihai to help sort your accommodation and food. Most people here still don’t speak English, and there aren’t hotels and restaurants or even shops around. He also organised interesting short tours for us around local sites of interest which really helped break up the days cycling. He was also responsive to requests, like when we asked for earlier starts to avoid the heat. And he also acted as the tour photographer. Couldn’t be more perfect. Thanks Mihai! Incredible tour that slows life down
What a unique adventure! Transylvania Cycling is far more than a vacation or a tour. It’s an immersive experience. We are a family of five. Almost by chance my wife found our wonderful guide Mihai and his local bike touring company. She found the reviews to be positive and he was a great communicator and source of information. I’m not sure any of us had had too many expectations as to what we would experience both in Romania and on our tour. Turns out it was one of the best trips we have ever taken. Our children who are in their late teens and twenties were totally engaged. This tour keeps you in the moment. It allows you to travel and experience a foreign culture in a way that truly sparks your imagination and curiosity. I would say that two things are way undersold on the website. Number one: Mihai. He’s the founder, owner and operator. Of course he’s not going to say how great he is but I will. He’s GREAT! His English is spoken fluently and easily. He’s very chill and so easy to be around day in and day out. He’s a wealth of information about the culture and history of Romania and the Transylvania region. He’s inquisitive about us and our culture. He shares easily and got my dumb humor. When my daughter was feeling sick he went to the pharmacy and came back with some options. When another had allergies he shared his allergy meds. By the end of the tour we felt like he was part of our family and we were quite sad to leave him. I dare say he may have been a titch sad too. Number two: the accommodations and food are way undersold. All six nights we stayed in the most amazing village inns. They are absolutely top notch by any standard anywhere in the world. And the food! So fresh, so delicious and so much of it. At times I over ate because I felt bad they had set so much food for us. You will not go hungry on this tour. Thought we might lose some weight due to the riding but don’t think that happened. There is truly too much on this tour to get into an already way too long review. Mihai is great, the bikes are high quality, the rides are challenging but not too, accommodations are amazing, the food is delish. We HIGHLY recommend Transylvania Cycling.

The last truely rural part of Western Europe
There are four things that make this trip special 1 The beautiful Transylvanian landscape. Translyvania is blessed with the most amazing beautiful country, which is even more remarkable because of the traditional rural way of life. It has made the fields full of wild flowers, insects and birds which is pretty unique in Western Europe. I think I saw more rare butterflies such as the scarce swallowtail, purple emporers than I have seen in a lifetime and to see so many stocks, hoopoe and bee-eaters was amazing. 2 The Saxon villages What an experience to see so many gorgeous villages that made you think you were transported back into the Middle Ages. We loved the churches and it was good that guides had been laid on at each point to give us a sense of the history. 3 The places to stay/eat We stayed in local hotels and was so authentic to eat in such local places including homes. Food was delicious and everything seemed to have been freshly picked from the garden. 4 The organisation Transylvannia Cycling very attentive and thoughtful which was really appreciated. We liked both the way Mihai guided us and suppoprted with Adrian in the minibus to help with any problems (we did have a couple of falls on some of the offcountry tracks but we are all in our 60s so to be expected). A quite wonderful journey that we were privileged to experience with Mihail and Adrian. The trip was professionally organised, the routes responsive to our requirements, the meals in amazing locations and the accommodation of a good standard. Transylvanian cycling tour
We had a great 7 days cycling in Transylvania, very conscientiously looked after by Mihai (4 cyclists, one support van). There was a good variety of typically small hotels and guesthouses (town and countryside, new and old), which were probably better than the average most cyclists are used to on similar trips in the Alps, for example), very quiet roads, some easier days, some tougher. Distances were between 58 and 137km. Highlights included the Transapuseana and Transfagasaran roads, as well as the beautiful and changing landscape with its ancient towns and villages, such as Sibiu, Veseud and Viscri, all steeped in the complex history of Central Europe.

A Cycle trip to remember
Just come back from an epic road cycle tour to Transylvania with Mihai & Adrian from Transylvanial Cycling. 5 nights in great accomodation and 5 days cycling on a route Mihai planned for us incorporating the two signature passs through the charming and picturesqe mountains, the Transfargarasan & the Transalpina. We were fully supported on each day, starting with pick up and ending with delivery back on Sunday evening at Sibiu airport some 250km and 25,000 ft later. The part of Romania we cycled through is quiet , characterful and charming offering a range of comfortable and wellcoming accomodation. Mihai and Adrian could not have been better prepared or more helpful, we enjoyed their company and a few beers together in the evenings which helped our appreciation of the country and customs. Importantly they helped source hire bikes which were reliable and regularly checked. I organised the trip for the party of 6 and benefitted from fantastic help, advise, suggestions and support from Transylvanian Cycling. Highest possible recommendation.

I want to share my experience on a recent road cycling tour which I did with friends in and around the Transylvania Alps, hosted and coordinated by Mihai and Adrian from ‘Transylvania Cycling’. It was absolutely fantastic! First and foremost, the service was impeccable. From the moment we landed and were collected from the airport, everything was meticulously organised for us, with hotels, meals etc all already booked and paid for, which made the tour smooth and stress-free. The hosts were exceptional; their knowledge and enthusiasm truly enhanced the experience. They were always there to assist and ensured we had the best possible time, with the minibus never far away should there be an issue (or tired legs!) or for Adrian to take professional photos of us. Routes were agreed and provided in-advance, again making for a hassle free and well informed experience. Having everything taken care of for us was just brilliant. It allowed us to fully immerse ourselves in the stunning landscapes and rich culture of Transylvania without any worries. I can't thank the team enough for their hard work and dedication in making this tour an unforgettable adventure, and I can’t recommend their company enough. I have cycled in many locations around the world and the Transylvanian Alps and roads now stand out as one of my best experiences to date 😊
